Title: El oro que Mata a un Pueblo y su Bosque / Gold that Destroys
the Village and the Forest
Media: Paint on Canvas
Dimensions: 19” x 25”
Brief description: When a man or woman buys a gold piece of jewelry, when investors bet on “development” in the jungle, when banks disburse or fill their coffers with gold, soles, dollars or euros, they are accomplices in the annihilation of Amazonian cultures. In owning a jewel they have shed blood in the indigenous territories. This work shows the trunk of the Anamëi tree, on that trunk the wise men and members of the Harakbut people meet while the mining depredation is inevitable.
However, the council of elders and Harakbut leaders seek alliances and strategies to save part of the forest, because the forest is our home, the survival of our people and our culture depends on our forests.
