Brief description: In this part of the Amazon there is a way to extract gold, the chute method is used, as the miners call it. In the chute a kind of red carpet is placed as a base to retrieve the gold nuggets. Through a second procedure they mix it with mercury to finally obtain the gold. This painting shows the chute and a black carpet where the gold nuggets are retained – this is an example of how large areas of forest are depredated. Some animals die for the gold nuggets while the forests degenerate and other animals mutate and become deformed, just like the human society…in this part of the jungle, where there is informal mining, prostitution and the corruption of human values reigns supreme.
